Boules, or sandwich logs, are just logs cut “through-and-through” from certain species, primarily to allow special slabs to be available to clients requiring something really unique.
Although some boules are sawn in thicknesses ranging from one to two inches, most people prefer them in 3” or thicker, usually up to 5”, due to their extreme weight and difficulties to handle.
Most boules are cut from large logs in diameter and length, especially from tropical hardwoods that may develop beautiful figure or “character”.
They are sold mostly air-dried, but we have the capabilities of kiln-drying them in our vacuum-kilns, which are really good for this job.
